Okonomiyaki (aka Japanese pizza) is a Japanese pancake dish including a variety of ingredients and usually associated with Osaka and Hiroshima areas (West) of Japan. Okonomi means “what you like” and Yaki means “grilled.” Regardless of the region and style, the main ingredients is always cabbage. This particular recipe is from my friend who’s originally from Hiroshima.

My Japanese friend who lives in Southern California gave me this colesslaw recipe. Ever since I made this salad for the first time, my family prefers this coleslaw over my “western” one. I was especially in shock when I first saw my son enjoying raw cabbage! I recommend this coleslaw to be served with seared ahi tuna dinner.

My family loves eating fresh made Gyoza. It’s the one of the dish I can always count on my kids eating without resorting to threats or bribes. Be creative with the dipping sauce by testing with ginger, green onion, daikon, yuzu, or sesame oil. Have a Gyoza wrapping party tonight and find out who is the most talented at wrapping Gyoza.

Yaki Udon

Yaki Udon is stir fried udon noodles and the sauce used to flavor the dish varies depending on the household. My mom uses Mentsuyu as main flavor, so I cook Yaki Udon same way. I remember my mom never measures her ingredients but her Yaki Udon always turns out delicious. Yaki Udon is a quick and easy dish to make with typical ingredients you might already have in the fridge.
