One of the dish my husband kept requesting me to make since we have been dating is Chawanmushi. He said it reminded him of his happy childhood growing up in Taiwan, enjoying the warm savory egg custard bite after bite. Chawanmushi is very easy to make but try to use real dashi so the taste will be authentic.
Among the classic Japanese dish, tempura, broiled fish, etc, one of my favorite is chicken karaage - aka Japanese fried chicken. Japanese fried chicken is quite different from American fried chicken since we typically uses boneless piece of chicken. The chicken itself is well marinated and dipped in corn starch for a crispy flaky crust. If you haven't guessed by now, this is another one of my children's favorite.
Japanese call Chicken Cacciatore "Chicken Tomato Ni (チキンのトマト煮)" and it is actually a pretty common home cooked meal in Japan. My kids love this dish and it's one of our favorite comfort food. I am sure if my recipe follows the authentic Italian method but I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does!
